A Christian is not known by answering Peter or John, but by the kind of life such a one lives. Titus 2:11, 12 said “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;” It is the will of God that anyone that calls on the name of Christ should depart from iniquity.
We live at a time that we can not differentiate between a believer and an unbeliever, because of the lack of godliness in the life of many. It is not enough for someone to have a form of godliness by going to church, reading the Bible, praying, etc; the power of godliness must also be evident.
WHAT IS A GODLY LIFE?
A godly life is a life of holiness, a life that is being patterned after God and according to His A life that radiates the glory of God. Jesus said in Matthew 5:16 “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” A godly life is a life that has received the grace of God and made to reflect God’s imparted likeness, image, and nature.
WHY YOU MUST LIVE A GODLY LIFE?
Living a godly life is not an option but a necessity if you must please God and see heaven on the last day. Psalm 4:3 affirmed this by saying; “But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for himself:”. A godly man has peace with God, receives answers to prayers, is a bold as a lion, and will see God on the last day. Godliness is what qualifies us to be in the holy hill of the Lord.
HOW A GODLY LIFE STARTS?
Receiving and living a godly life is not by our philanthropic acts, morality, or human goodwill. A godly life starts from Calvary; it starts by repenting from every sin, acknowledging the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross, and by believing and confessing Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. After such thing has been done, the grace of God comes into the life of such a person and begins to guide the person in living a godly life. Without coming to calvary, any life that we are living is not godly before God. Calvary qualifies and empowers us to live a godly life.
HOW TO LIVE A GODLY LIFE?
After receiving the grace of God into your life, there are things that the grace of God will lead you and cause you to do. You will need to deny every form or appearance of evil. The lifestyles of the past must be rejected and renounced.
You will no longer associate with anything that depicts the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, because they are not of the Father, but are of the world. Aside from abstaining from sin, your character and disposition must also change. There should be a manifestation of the fruit of the Spirit namely: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, and temperance.
You cannot be living a godly life and still hate your enemies, keep malice or grudges, have hatred towards people, be impatient with people, rude or arrogant, harsh or inconsiderate, and without showing mercy.
Living a godly life can only be empowered by the grace of God, that is why you must revive this grace by being born again, and by faith in Jesus Christ.
